The consumer forum has directed the Indian Railways to pay over Rs. 36,000 to a 60-year-old man for harassing him by leaving him stranded on a small station on a cold winter night.
East Delhi resident R.S. Bhatnagar, then 56, was travelling in a confirmed AC second class coach and was informed by the TTE that his berth has been upgraded to first class AC for which he was made to deboard and walk to the AC coach at the another end of the train. The train left before Bhatnagar could walk its whole length to take his upgraded berth, leaving him stranded at Pataudi in Haryana on December 30, 2008 for a whole night.
“Due to misbehaviour/negligence of the TTE, (despite) having confirmed ticket the complainant had to wander here and there on a severe winter cold night and he had to spend the whole night unnecessarily (at a station).
